3 weeks agoMy wife and I recently returned to Puerto Rico for a weekend getaway and were hoping to discover somewhere new that would make the trip memorable. Bacaro didn’t just meet expectations. It became one of the highlights of our entire visit. From the moment I called to make a reservation, the experience was effortless and welcoming. The atmosphere strikes a rare balance: intimate and refined, yet comfortable enough to make you feel completely at home. For dinner, I ordered the Spaghetti alla Carbonara with added chicken. As someone who grew up around my Nonna’s cooking, I don’t say this lightly… this was one of the best carbonaras I’ve had in a very long time. The menu proudly notes “no cream,” and that’s exactly how it should be. Rich egg yolks, pecorino romano, guanciale, and black pepper working together in perfect harmony. I literally wiped the plate clean. The service elevated the experience even further. Liss and Alanis were incredibly knowledgeable, answering questions about both the current menu and items referenced in older online reviews. Their passion for the restaurant and attention to detail never went unnoticed. At the bar, Andre crafted a house-made sangria that was perfectly balanced. Not overly sweet, not overly dry, just exceptional. To finish the evening, he surprised us with a custom digestive limoncello that was the perfect ending to an already outstanding meal. For dessert, we shared: • Tiramisu • Manchego Flan • Almond Tres Leches All three were phenomenal. Picking a favorite would be impossible. What impressed me most was watching a small team work together with such professionalism, pride, and genuine passion. In an era where great hospitality can be hard to find, Bacaro feels special. It offers the warmth of a family gathering, the quality of an upscale dining experience, and a sense of culture and authenticity that stays with you long after you’ve left. I’ve been fortunate enough to dine all over the world, and this is one of those experiences that remains with you. In fact, it was so memorable that we’re already planning to bring family back with us in August. If you’re visiting Puerto Rico and appreciate authentic Italian cuisine, exceptional service, and an atmosphere that feels both exclusive and welcoming, Bacaro is not just a recommendation. It’s a destination. One final note: I grew up around my Nonna’s cooking, and very few restaurants can recreate that feeling of being welcomed into someone’s home while still delivering a refined dining experience. Bacaro somehow manages to do both. It made our entire trip to Puerto Rico, and that’s about the highest compliment I can give.

2 months agoFirst time eating here today 1-2 photos was around 1pm and it’s was absolutely delicious foods. And have to go back for dinner picture #3 it’s was terrible and disappointing The pasta is dry no sauce and I ordered Linguini Puttanesca with anchovies and they didn’t put any anchovies!!! I rent airbnb literally next to this place and the pasta should not dry out this fast for Togo order, I guess just eat here don’t think about take to go order.

2 months agoSurprisingly delicious Italian restaurant with an attentive friendly staff and very reasonable prices considering the quality and flavor of the ingredients used. Small intimate indoor seating which can fill up fast so reservations are recommended. All of the food we ordered was delicious and as good or better than most of the Italian restaurants in the US. Definitely worth stopping in to try!

4 months agoI wasn’t sure what to expect with Italian food in Puerto Rico. It was absolutely delicious. We loved the burrata salad. The gnocchi and carbonara were as good as we’ve had in Italy. The service was friendly and the vibe was great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the food scene in Puerto Rico.

6 months agoThe decor of the restaurant is really nice. The service is friendly and fast. But the food is not very good. And prices were rather high. I had the gnocchi with a caprese salad. My salad was small and just ok. The gnocchi was very mushy and not very tasty. The merlot was very good.

9 months agoI visited this wonderful Italian restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday along with my family. We were kindly greeted by the restaurant's host and quickly took us to the best seating spot for us. We were amazed at the interior decor. It's absolutely a work of art blending a fusion colonial interior architecture, historic photos, and splendid paintings. We were quickly greeted by the waiter. Super kind, attentive and assisted in helping us select the meals with ease. As appetizer, we ordered the Bruschetta platter and absolutely loved it. Beautiful presentation. Main courses were Fettuccine Alla Boscaiola, Linguine Allo Scoglio, Spaghetti Alla Carbonara and cream of Taro. Presentation and plating of each pasta was exceptional. Portions were generous. Ingredients are all made and prepared in house by the masterful hands of their chefs. Flavor and taste was OUTSTANDING! We absolutely LOVED IT! This restaurant has raised the bar and is now our top favorite Italian restaurant in Puerto Rico. At the end, we ordered 3 tiramisu desserts made in house and were absolutely wonderful. The tiramisu for my son was for free by the house ❤️🎂. Price for the entire course of meals is below the competition while providing a delicious, delightful and exemplary Italian culinary experience. We will definitely return in the future and on my behalf, I highly recommend anyone visiting the Old San Juan area and looking for an excellent Italian restaurant to place Bacaro on top of their list. 9 months agoFantastic place. I’ve been twice in 3 years and both were excellent. Apps were delicious. Drinks were great. I went with the server’s recommendation since I wanted a lighter dish (raviolis and shrimp) and it was excellent. The lamb was also so tender and flavorful and the risotto also very good.
